A trip Guide to Epe Fish Market

Epe town is a place inhabited by fishermen which lies in the outskirts of Lagos State. Most people don’t know that the town is a part of Lagos and they usually count it as a part Ogun state. The Epe town is a very peaceful place which most people living out there are very warm and welcoming. Here is our experience to the chaotic Epe fish market.

We also recommend our guide to the most non-touristy things to do in Lagos.

There are lots of places where tourists can go out in the city for exploration and holidays but most people overlook the other places where they can visit and wonderful adventurous time such as the Oba’s (King) palace, art galleries etc. But most people overlook the fun which lies in the other rural areas of the town like the fish market. We went exploring the beautiful Epe fish market a few weeks ago and it was a very memorable experience.

The fish market is just about 15 minutes bike ride from the main entrance of the town and the view from the hills of the town is just mesmerizing. On arriving at the fish market, tourists are being approached and welcomed by very down to earth local tour guides who are willing to take tourists around the whole market. The tour begins from within the entrance of the fish market where some reptiles such as alligators, crocodiles and a few others are on display to interested buyers.

Moving into the market a bit further will bring into view the various fish stands and stalls where fishes and other sea foods of different kinds are being displayed such as tilapia fish, crocker fish, titus, snails, prawns as well as lobsters. The tour guides usually help tourists find very good deals on these fishes for they are very familiar with the market prices.

The most interesting part of touring the fish market is the affordable boat rides on the Epe seas which connects to the ocean. The boat rides costs between a thousand naira and a thousand five hundred for 2 tourists and a tour guide. The rides lasts for about 15 minutes or even more depending on how brave tourists are on the seas. While sailing through the waves of seas, tourists get to enjoy the mesmerizing view of the seas which is very wide and calm. The cool breeze and air from the speed at which the boat moves also tends caress ones face while in motion.
